Our Garden
In the front garden we have a bench, some people enjoy engaging with any passers by with a hello or 'morning', this helps the people living in the home to feel apart of the neighbourhood and community. Some people living in the home enjoy watching young school children from the local school just down the road.
We have easy access to our large decking area in the back garden just off the conservatory which has picnic tables and plenty of chairs and several rattan settes with comfy cushions, this area has also been popular when visitors stay for dinner, drinks, snacks with their relatives and friends. For people using wheelchairs or specialist chairs there is easy access to the decking area. There is a a large storage box full of garden activity 'stuff' from blowing bubbles to various bats, balls, skipping ropes, hoola hoops, etc which can also be used by visiting children.
In the lower back garden we grow runner beans, tomatoes, strawberries and lots of herbs, the those living in the home are also involved in the picking of vegetables and herbs that we grow. Several people living in the home also enjoy helping the staff team put out the laundry on our many washing lines.
We have also a side patio area which is always popular with the people living in the home as it surrounded on all sides and therefore away from away from any breeze which can cause issues with people living dementia. This area is straight off the early stage lounge with early level access and suitable for wheelchairs and specialist chairs.
Off the side patio we have another side garden, this garden is designed to be visually stimualting. Through a circle arch and around the garden in which every few steps there is something interesting to look at. At the end of the path there is another decking area with tables and chairs, then through another circle arch leading back to the house. All of the pathways are on a level access and is a particularly nice area when in a wheelchair and specialist chairs. It is also proves popular with people who are able to walk short distances, but are able to see many things in such a short distance with seating areas to rest en route. This area is popular with the people living in the home and their visitors.
The lovely Hooe Lake is a very short distance away, as are Mountbatten and Jenny Cliff. Plymstock shops that include a library is a very short taxi journey away we enjoy trips there in good weather.
We are also a short walk to a small local shop, some enjoy going to for a bar of chocolate, daily newspapers, etc.
